How The Building Is Illuminated

Aalto illuminates the building in multiple different ways. He uses a collection of conical skylights, roof monitors and clerestory windows to bring as much natural light as possible. He also uses light fixtures such as desk lamps and lights in the ceiling for when it's cloudy or dark out.

How Light Is Used and Controlled

Since Aalto’s design relies mostly on natural light, Aalto had to find a way to disperse it throughout the building. He does this by reflecting and defusing the light coming in from the skylights above. He does this through the conical skylights and roof monitors which scatters the light. He also uses light colored walls which also helps reflect the natural light.
